Doug & Katy – The Wimbish House, April 21, 2012

There are some weddings you coordinate that are true parties.

This.  Was.  One of them.

A bride and groom who are best friends in love, friends and family who love them, and phenomenal vendors made this a great reception.

Place: The Wimbish House

Florist: Petal’s Edge Floral

Caterer: Grande Event Catering

Cake: Gabriel’s

Band: Jeni Michelson & The Society Express Band

The Wimbish House was the terrific site chosen by this couple.

For the cocktail hour, Jeni Michelson played the piano while guests entered the beautiful Wimbish House foyer to see the amazing cake from Gabriel's

The bride and groom had their guests sign a coffeetable book of Atlanta - what a great idea!

White roses in rustic centerpieces adorned each high boy table and ballroom table

Guests entered the foyer and had lots of options - they could check out the cake around the corner, they could go to the bar in the sunroom, or they could go downstairs into the ballroom and enjoy the band and have dinner

The bride and groom, the bridal party, and the photographer all traveled from the church to the reception site in a trolly - a very fun idea!

Lots of guests hung out in the ballroom and ate, and enjoyed the band, and other guests stayed upstairs on the front porch, in the sunroom, or in the living room. With lots of spaces to hang out and talk, there was something for everyone at this reception!

International Street Festival, Athens, Georgia

UGA and ISL’s annual International Street Festival was this past Saturday, April 14th.

I had the privilege of helping to assist in program creation and being one of the many volunteers helping out the day of.

As always, ISL attracts terrific volunteers (undergraduates, graduates, and alum) to come help out.  Leigh Poole (who runs ISL) is amazing, and the international community at UGA wouldn’t be the same without her.

Here are just a few shots of some of the performances…

Ravin by Popcaan (Modern Dance) by CaribSA (Caribbean Student Association)

Capoeira (Martial Arts/Acrobatics) - UGA Capoeira (Brazil)

Persian Music (Santur)

Indian Rockers (Indian Dance Featuring Bollywood Styles)

Salsa (by the UGA Ballroom Performance Group)

Global Fashion Show

Baile Folklorico de Mexico (Traditional Dance)

Anisah on the Steel Drum (Traditional Caribbean Instrument)

Atlanta Botanical Garden

I had a blast Thursday night at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

They hosted an event for wedding planners called “Blooms and Bubbly.”

Sun in my Belly provided some snacks, Tulip provided the beautiful centerpieces, Fotographa was on hand for photos, and Blend was there to help you customize your own scent card!

This was (embarrassingly) my first time at ABG.  I’m thrilled I went, and I’m grateful for the invitation.

I’m looking forward to one day working with some of these great vendors!

Snapdragons have a special place in my heart. My dad used to make them "talk" for me, and make funny voices.

I definitely got the appeal of this beautiful site to have a ceremony! With the greens and the fountain overlooking the city, what's not to like?

A beautiful space in Mershon Hall could sit about 60-70 people. I love the lights!

I loved Sun in My Belly's lavender-infused lemon tarts!

Tulip always seems to come up with some of the most beautiful color combinations!

Choosing my scent!

You could smell these flowers from several feet away...

Check out these orchids in the conservatory...

Looking up in the conservatory, as the mist began...

How are you leaving your wedding?

We posted in January about leaving your wedding in style, like via a trolly or horse and carriage.

But what about that time in between the door and your ride away for the night?

Here are some ideas compiled from message boards, brides I’ve talked to, and discussions I’ve had with others in the wedding industry.

What am I missing?

Bubbles!

White rose petals

Pom Poms that act as decor can be used later to "cheer" on the couple to their getaway car

Guests can throw airplanes at the couple as they leave the ceremony or reception

Have all of your guests line up and snap photos using their camera flash. Like a paparazzi send off! Just be sure your professional photographer is in the loop with this, so they can be sure and get some good shots without the other flashes affecting their shots.

How about the traditional bird seed? Put them in these creative "seed cones."

How about handing out loud noisemakers to each of your guests?

And of course, there are sparklers. If you can, get the ones that are 20" or longer - the spark lasts longer, and your photographer can get some great shots. Just be sure to have a couple of buckets of sand nearby to put out flames.

Glowsticks for a VERY colorful exit!

Have your guests send you off waving flags of well wishes!

Kind of like birdseed - but this smells heavenly!
